Interactive Multicultural Assembly 'Gather Here" Comes to HES
In what is quickly becoming a well-loved annual tradition at Hawthorne, “Gather Here” brought the entire student body together for song and dance and celebration!
In two assemblies in the gym, the Hawthorne community enjoyed a 45 minute live multicultural show that shined a light on different cultures from around the world in a fun, musical, and interactive way. The assembly, led by New York State Teaching Artist, Brian Chevalier, gave students the opportunity to listen to both some old favorites as well as new-to-them songs along with the opportunity to learn about different cultures and instruments and their origins.
From Carlos Santana to The Neville Brothers to Bo Diddley, it was a celebration of cultures and movement as students sang and learned the sign language that goes along with the Unicorn Song and clapped to Hava Nagila. For the grand finale, the entire gathering sang Feliz Navidad at the top of their lungs.
Thank you Mount Pleasant Elementary PTA for generously funding this fun-filled learning experience.
