Celebrating Earth Day
On April 21st, Hawthorne Elementary hosted an Earth Day Exploration. Students were engaged in Earth Day activities throughout the day, within the classrooms and in the budding outdoor spaces. A team of Encore Specialists partnered to provide students with an interdisciplinary Earth Day experience. In Physical Education and Health the kindergarteners played recycling tag and learned about ways to keep the Earth clean. First graders created an Earth Day Pledge and researched ways to protect our Earth, with the Library Media specialists. Second graders created a collaborative art project and learned about the process of recycling paper with our Art and Science specialists. Stacey Parthemore, the Arborist from Save-a-Tree, taught the second graders about photosynthesis. The HES Go-Green Committee helped students participate in a planting project.
Special thanks to Ms. Regina Haecker and Ms. Gabby Gold, the Go-Green Committee members, and many PTA volunteers for helping to make this a wonderful day for all of the children. The students greatly enjoyed the hands-on opportunities to learn about and celebrate our planet.
