Celebrating Patriot Day at HES


Hawthorne Elementary School — Incoming Kindergarten

Each year we eagerly await the arrival of our new Kindergarteners. Kindergarten registration will
take place on March 4, 5, 6, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment.

Please complete the Pre-Registration Survey and return it to the school or call our main office at

Informational packets will be mailed in February which contain forms necessary for registration.
Please note that children entering Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before December 1,

Important Dates:
March 4, 5, 6 - Incoming Kindergarten Registration (parents only)

April 24 - Incoming Kindergarten Parent Orientation; 3:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room,
Brighton Avenue entrance. Parking on Brighton Ave. or Memorial Drive available after 3:15.

May 12-16, - Incoming Kindergarten Student Screenings; 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m. (by appointment)


A note is required if a student will be riding home on a different bus or getting off at a different stop from his/her assigned bus stop. Also, a note is required if the student will be picked up at Brighton Avenue. Notes can be faxed to us at 769-8527 by 11:00 a.m. provided you follow up with a confirming phone call to the office (to ensure receipt of fax).

HES is certainly a Place for Great Beginnings. I have witnessed first-hand the strength of our learning community. I measure this strength by the presence of highly professional and caring faculty and staff, parents who are greatly involved and enthusiastic children who come to school every day with a natural curiosity for learning. News & Updates

School Budget — Are You Registered to Vote?
The adoption of the annual school district budget will take place at the Tuesday, April 22 Board of Education meeting. For more information, see the proposed Instructional and Non-Instructional Budgets that are posted under the BOE tab. Voter information is available under Budget News in the Board of Education tab above.

Seeking School Board Candidates
Nominating petitions are available for Mount Pleasant school district residents who are interested in running for the Board of Education. Two seats are up for election this May. Petitions may be obtained by calling the District Clerk at 769-5500. Petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified district voters and be received by the District Clerk by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 21. See "To Become a Board Candidate." 

Facilities Steering Committee to Weigh Options
Addressing the modernization of our infrastructure and buildings is part of the district's Strategic Plan. A Facilities Steering Committee has formed to study the immediate as well as future needs of our buildings, our students and our community.
